I was very interested to find that many of us have never experienced true hunger. Do you know where true hunger is felt on our bodies? Many of us will answer to say that it must be our stomach growling and gurgling that shows us we are truly hungry. Some of us may say that when we are hungry, we feel a headache or feel a strong craving for a particular food. True hunger is not felt in any of these ways. In fact, true hunger is a pain that is felt in the throat and is accompanied by a feeling of anxiety.
Many of the symptoms we experience are not hunger at all, but rather food withdraws from addictions that we are constantly feeding. Our bodies many times are never allowed to reach the point of hunger before we pacify the cravings that we are experiencing, by giving our body what we think it needs.
False hunger is very common when the body is feeding on refined sugars. As soon as your body processes the sugars, there is a feeling of false hunger in the body. I remember feeling this way when I was on the SAD diet, after eating a fast food meal followed by an ice cream for dessert. Shortly after eating all of this food, I was feeling hungry! This is actually hypoglycemia. Many people are stuck in this vicious cycle of sugar highs and lows.
How does a person get off of the hamster wheel of sugar addiction? Cleanse your body by eating a whole food diet. Instead of a box of cookies, eat a whole apple. The natural sugars in the apple are able to be digested by the body. Refined sugar hits the bloodstream in such a rush that the body is not able to keep up with it, producing excess insulin and the drop in blood sugar called hypoglycemia.
I have tried a fasting cleanse that helped me to rid my body of the cravings for junk. It really is amazing how when we begin juicing raw fruits and vegetables, and feeding our bodies at the cellular level with the nutrients they need, the false hunger seems to vanish away!
